Despite the existence of all these examples for using wear and corrosion resistant coatings in various industries, one of the main applications of surface engineering is still in the recovery of parts that aren’t usable due to surface degradation. The repair of these parts using the thermal spraying method has the following main advantages:
- The use of the thermal spraying method to repair a depreciated piece is more cost effective in comparison to manufacturing a new piece
- Given that the degradation of repaired parts could have been caused by any one of the factors including wear, corrosion, high temperature, oxidation, etc. it can also be possible to increase the life span of a part to even more than the life span of that of a new part by using a suitable coating.
- Repairing and retrieving parts requires less time than manufacturing a new one.
- Due to its low temperature, thermal spraying has no effect on the structure of the metal base and in this respect, is a reliable method.
